Allan McGregor was fortunate not to be sent off as Rangers beat Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Wednesday night.
Derek Ferguson has hit out at a Rangers player in the aftermath of Wednesday’s full-blooded encounter with Aberdeen – but it’s not Alfredo Morelos who is in his sights.
Morelos was sent off for the third time in four games against The Dons this season alone after an unseemly clash with Scott McKenna.
But goalkeeper Allan McGregor also caught the eye for the wrong reasons at Pittodrie, catching Lewis Ferguson with his studs and leaving the 19-year-old writhing in pain.
Ferguson is a Rangers legend who played for the Glasgow giants between 1983 and 1990. But he is also Lewis’ dad and there is no question where his loyalties lie.
“It was naughty. Listen, it happens in football. Sometimes it’s the difference between the split second and a career-ending injury,” the 51-year-old told Open Goal.
“A lot of people say it was Lewis trying to get McGregor back a wee bit later on. It was in his mind, but I know Lewis better than anybody else.”
This is not the first time 36-year-old McGregor has ‘got away with one’ this season. He was perhaps fortunate not to be sent off for an apparent kick at Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer in Rangers’ narrow defeat at Parkhead back in September.
There is no doubting the goalkeeper’s commitment to the cause – but maybe that can bubble over into something rather unpleasant.
