Aston Villa allegedly beat Championship rivals Derby County to Bournemouth’s Premier League bench-warmer Tyrone Mings.
Derby County are one of a number of Championship clubs who missed out on a deal for the Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings.
The Mirror (23 January, page 49) reported that The Rams had joined the likes of Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and West Brom in the chase for the £8 million man. But, by the time the transfer window slammed shut on Thursday night, Mings was posing in the famous claret and blue kit of Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old has moved to Villa Park on loan for the rest of the season with Dean Smith’s side paying a hefty loan fee understood to be £1 million, according to the Daily Mail.
So are the Derby fans disappointed? Not exactly.
The Rams are lacking a bit of depth at centre-half with Richard Keogh a shadow of his former self and have struggled with injuries on the left, too, Marcus Olsson and Craig Forsyth stuck on the sidelines for the long-term.
The versatile Mings can play in both positions but it seems that Derby supporters were worried about the prospect of signing another injury-prone defender.
He has missed 81 games since joining Bournemouth in 2015 – so Aston Villa are taking a risk.
