Jonathan Mitchell is on loan at League One strugglers Oxford United from Championship high-flyers Derby County.
A loan spell at Oxford United has certainly been beneficial for promising Derby County goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell.
The England U21 international has never made a Championship appearance for the Rams and that looks unlikely to change any time soon, with the evergreen Scott Carson as impressive as ever between the sticks.
Mitchell has been a regular for Oxford, however, featuring in nine out of 11 League One games, although he has come in for criticism from some supporters with Karl Robinson’s side just one point off the bottom of the table.
His distribution in particular has come under the microscope but, speaking to the Witney Gazette, Mitchell has now hit back at his critics.
“It was just a couple of bad kicks, I don’t think it was the end of the world,” said the 23-year-old, who is on loan at the Kassam Stadium until January.
“You just look to improve every day.”
Regular number one Simon Eastwood is expected to return very soon from a dislocated finger, meaning Mitchell’s place in the Oxford starting XI is likely to come under threat.
But he has admitted that his spell with The U’s has been beneficial, even if Oxford have picked up just five points all season.
