Paul Clement lasted just eight months in the Championship with Derby County…at least he hung on for a little longer at Premier League strugglers Swansea.

Paul Clement replaced Steve McClaren at Derby County in the summer of 2015. And, two-and-a-half years later, Clement is starting to be tarred with the same brush that tainted the managerial reputation of his Rams’ predecessor.

Throughout McClaren’s life in the dugout, fans and pundits alike have queued up to claim that he is a great coach – but not so handy as a manager.

And after Clement’s second attempt at a solo career ended in disappointment on Wednesday night, the same thing could be said about him too. The former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern Munich assistant has been sacked by Swansea City with the Welsh side bottom of the Premier League.

With just three wins to their name all season, and a league-low ten goals scored, Clement’s position looked untenable after Monday’s 3-1 defeat at Everton.

But it is fair to say the Derby County fans who endured Clement’s plodding possession football for eight months at Pride Park aren’t too surprised that his spell at Swansea ended in another P45.

After all, they warned Swansea fans not to get their hopes up when the 45-year-old was appointed at the Liberty Stadium back in January. Even though Derby were just five points off the top of the Championship when Clement was dismissed in the spring of 2016, it is not exactly the best reflection on his managerial ability that he is not exactly missed in the East Midlands.
