Wolverhampton Wanderers will host Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United at Molineux as they look to seal their first Premier League win of the season.
Manchester United might have battered Chelsea in their Premier League opener last weekend but Dean Saunders believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be brought down to earth with a bump against Wolverhampton Wanderers, while speaking to talkSPORT.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were on fire during last Sunday’s 4-0 demolition of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea at Old Trafford, yet Wolves should pose a very different test at Molineux.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s well-drilled side certainly won’t give United’s jet-heeled forwards the speed to run in behind during Monday night’s clash for a start; the former Porto boss preferring a deep-lying back line and a rapid counter-attacking style.
And Saunders, a former Wolves boss himself, is confident that a shock could be on the cards in the Black Country.
“(Wolves are) a team, they’re hard to beat. They got more points against the top six than anyone expect Manchester City last season,” Saunders told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (19 August, 9.30am). “I think they’re favourites cause they’ve been together for so long.
“Man United are a team in the making, Wolves are already a team.”
Wolves have beaten United twice at Molineux in 2019 already, sealing 2-1 successes in the Premier League and the FA Cup quarter-final.
Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota, Pedro Neto and Patrick Cutrone have all looked sharp and ruthless during Wolves’ Europa League qualification campaign too and this should be a real acid test for Solskjaer’s new-look back line.
