Dean Saunders has suggested that Liverpool could consider rescuing Gareth Bale amid question marks about his future at Real Madrid, while speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (5 March, 9:00am).
Bale was under pressure to establish himself as Madrid’s main man in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era, but his first season without the Portuguese superstar at his side has been something of a disaster.
The Welsh international has scored just 13 goals in all competitions in another season ravaged by injury problems, while he has often lost his place in the starting XI to the hard-working Lucas Vasquez.
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Liverpool and Wales hero Saunders has suggested there could be a place in Liverpool’s starting XI for arguably the most gifted British footballer of his generation.
“Would he get in the team? (He could play) as a number ten with Wijnaldum and Henderson or Milner behind him, two defensive midfield players with Bale as a number ten,” Saunders mused.
Bale might be an exceptional footballer but, if he was to return to the Premier League, he would come with his own set of caveats.
