Glasgow Rangers should bring Jason Cummings to Ibrox from Nottingham Forest, despite late Premier League interest via Crystal Palace.
Jason Cummings netted just one goal in 14 games for Nottingham Forest in the Championship. But according to the Scottish Sun, Crystal Palace obviously felt he was good enough for the Premier League, despite a less than prolific record in the division below.
The report stated that the Eagles were keen to offer Cummings a chance in the top flight, with the striker set to leave Forest on loan this month. It is understood, however, that Roy Hodgson’s side might have left it a little too late with Rangers closing in on the 22-year-old.
As reported by the Scottish Sun, Cummings has agreed to join Rangers on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy and is expected to undergo a medical in the very near future.
And while the opportunity to play in the Premier League does not come around too often, it seems that Cummings would be better off at Ibrox than at Selhurst Park.
After all, it is difficult to imagine Forest’s £1 million man ousting Christian Benteke as Palace’s number one centre-forward. In reality, he would probably be reduced to a back-up role; a position he has been forced to endure during a frustrating few months at the City Ground.
But Cummings could be the main man at Rangers. He scored prolifically in Scotland with Hibernian, including eight against the Ibrox giants, and they know first-hand just how lethal he can be on his day.
Alongside Alfredo Morelos, Cummings will be expected to fire Rangers into second place and ahead of Aberdeen; the sort of responsibility he would not have been given at either Palace or Forest.
