With only two starts to his name for RB Leipzig last season, it’s fair to say Swansea and Everton target Davie Selke needs a fresh start.

With RB Leipzig capping a sensational debut campaign in Germany’s top flight by reaching the Champions League, finishing second behind Bayern Munich no less, you’d expect that one of the country’s most highly-rated prospects would have played a major role.

Alas Davie Selke was little more than a bit-part player for Ralf Hasenhutl. The 22-year-old, once the heir apparent to Miroslav Klose in Joachim Low’s national team, started just two league games all season, coming off the bench another 19 times.

His goal tally stood at a measly four.

As a result, it appears that Leipzig are willing to cut their losses on a player they plucked from Werder Bremen in 2015, writing major headlines as a result. According to Kicker, Swansea City have heavily monitored Selke’s situation this season while Everton and West Ham are also interested in the lanky, languid frontman.

However, the fact that Selke has barely featured in Leipzig’s remarkable campaign should set a few alarm bells ringing. After all, the youngster could hardly be further away from Low’s senior set-up these days.

Nonetheless, you can understand why Premier League clubs would view Selke as a potentially excellent investment. Time is very much on the striker’s side, after all.

Furthermore, with Borja Baston struggling to settle and Fernando Llorente linked with moves elsewhere, possibly a reunion with former Juventus coach Antonio Conte at Chelsea, Paul Clement may need reinforcements up top.

The same goes for Everton if, and possibly when, Romelu Lukaku gets his wish to join a major European giant.

Strangely enough, Selke appears to have a better chance of regular minutes in the Premier League rather than wish a Bundesliga newcomer.
