Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United need a Premier League quality centre-back and Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld fits the bill.

Danny Murphy has encouraged Manchester United to go out and sign Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld this summer, while speaking to the Mail.
It is no secret that United need to strengthen in all areas this summer and the centre of defence is one position where reinforcement has been required for a number of years.
Victor Lindelof has all the attributes required to become a top class centre-half but the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly leave a lot to be desired.
Alderweireld, an experienced and commanding defender with proven Premier League and Champions League quality, would be an immediate upgrade. At least that is the view of Murphy, who himself played for Spurs between 2006 and 2007.
“Let’s start at the back. If Toby Alderweireld has a £25million buy-out clause from Tottenham as reported, go and get him,” said the former Liverpool midfielder.

“He’ll bring experience and know-how, a 30-year-old at the peak of his powers who can provide leadership for United as Virgil van Dijk has done at Liverpool or Vincent Kompany has given for years at City.”
The Guardian claimed 11 months ago that Jose Mourinho wanted to bring Alderweireld to Old Trafford. But United will be aware that agreeing a deal with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be like pulling teeth.
Nevertheless, the Belgian has just year left on his contract and Tottenham will be forced to sell if United meet his release clause.
