Danny Murphy has backed Liverpool’s reported pursuit of Adrian San Miguel, describing the former West Ham United custodian as a ‘really good keeper’ while speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (5 August, 10:00am).
With Simon Mignolet heading back to Belgium in an £8 million move to Club Brugge, the Champions of Europe were under pressure to bring in a replacement before Thursday’s 5:00pm transfer deadline.
But they needn’t have worried. Because while Mignolet packs his bags, Adrian is gearing up for a move to Merseyside.
According to Sky Sports, the 32-year-old is heading to Liverpool after being released by West Ham at the end of the 2018/19 campaign. The former Real Betis man had been a regular in The Hammers’ XI for five years but the signing of Lukas Fabianski last summer saw the veteran lose his place between the sticks.
And while Adrian is hardly the blockbuster signing Liverpool fans were dreaming of, Murphy believes he could be a solid addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

“Good keeper. I thought he was unlucky because Fabianksi had a great season,” said the former Reds favourite. “I think Adrian is a really good keeper.
“If you’re gonna be a number two, be a number two where you’re gonna win things and get paid a hell of a lot of money.”
As Murphy points out, Adrian is likely to spend most of his time at Anfield sat on the bench with Alisson Becker, Brazil’s number one and arguably the world’s greatest shot-stopper, firmly established as Klopp’s number one.
