Morgan Gibbs-White starred during Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 3-2 Premier League defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Morgan Gibbs-White certainly announced himself to the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The 18-year-old came off the bench with half an hour remaining in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ home clash against Tottenham Hotspur and produced a performance that could be the making of him.
Gibbs-White almost changed the game after his introduction, helping Wolves fight back from 3-0 down to the verge of cancelling out Tottenham’s hefty advantage. And, while Nuno Espirito Santo’s side eventually lost 3-2, the teenager’s eye-catching cameo certainly gave the fans reason to leave Molineux with a smile on their face.
Danny Murphy, who knows what it takes to succeed as a Premier League midfielder, has told Jim White on talkSPORT (5 November, 11.30am), that Wolves fans are right to get a little excited about their talented young midfielder, tipping him for an England call-up to boot.
“What I see in this lad, the talent, the pace, the strength, the passing ability; he looks ready,” said former Tottenham, midfielder Murphy.
“It’s going to be hard to play every week but you’re talking about a player with the type of ability and passing range that we need at the moment.”
The Mail reported in October that England manager Gareth Southgate was keeping a close eye on Gibbs-White and a call-up to the senior side would not come as a massive surprise given that Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount and James Maddison have been included of late.
The challenge for Gibbs-White, however, is whether he can now force his way into a Wolves’ starting XI containing the considerable midfield talents of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.
