Championship clubs West Bromwich Albion and Boro are reportedly keen on Lincoln City’s League Two winning manager Danny Cowley.

In-demand Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley has played down speculation linking him with the vacant managerial positions at West Brom or Middlesbrough, while speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire (23 May, 7:00pm).

Championship duo West Brom and Middlesbrough both missed out on promotion this season, the former losing to Aston Villa in the play-offs while the latter failed to finish in the top six altogether. And Cowley has emerged as a potential target for both clubs.

According to the Mail, West Brom have held initial talks with the 40-year-old with Middlesbrough also feeling that he would be capable of replacing Tony Pulis at the Riverside.

But according to the man himself, a move to the Baggies or Boro is far from inevitable right now.

“We have not had any official communication from any club. There will always be speculation particularly in the close season when there is no matches,” Cowley said.

“There are no football matches, there are no results to discuss or players to celebrate or to criticise or team selections to moan about or tactics they may agree with or disagree with.

“There will always be this level of speculation, I think with social media the way it is it gets magnified and exaggerated in equal measure.”

Cowley enjoyed a remarkable debut season in charge of Lincoln in 2016/17, guiding The Imps to the National League title while they became the first Non-League side to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for over 100 years.

And Lincoln have continued to progress at a remarkable rate, finishing top of League Two in May.
