Rangers’ latest target Daniel Candeias knows manager Pedro Caixinha well from his time at Portuguese club Nacional in 2011/12.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has put together quite an extensive contact book from his years travelling the globe as player and coach. From his native Portugal to Mexico, Qatar, Greece and Glasgow, the 46-year-old’s array of continental transfer targets suggest he is taking inspiration from all over as he attempts to rejuvenate the Scottish giants.

And the Daily Record reports that Benfica-owned winger Daniel Candeias is on the verge of becoming Rangers’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

The report adds that the former Portugal youth international, who enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Antalyaspor in Greece, has agreed terms on a £700,000 deal.

And if there is any man who can get the best out of this technically gifted winger after a nomadic career taking in four different loan spells since the start of 2014/15, it is Caixinha.

After all, the pair worked together at Portuguese side Nacional in the 2011/12 season. In total, Caixinha spent just shy of a year with the White and Blacks, leading them to a respectable seventh place finish when taking over in October 2011 before resigning after a disappointing start to the following campaign.

And during that positive first season, Candeias produced arguably the finest football of his career with seven goals and five assists in all competitions. In fact, that remains the most prolific campaign of the 29-year-old’s career.

Therefore, Rangers supporters will be hoping that Caixinha can help get the best out of the gifted winger once again at Ibrox.
