Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Middlesbrough’s emerging Championship defender Dael Fry.

Celtic could face an almost impossible task with Dael Fry understood to be a target heading into the January transfer window.
According to TEAMtalk, the Scottish Premiership champions are interested in signing Middlesbrough’s highly-rated defender but getting the deal over the line looks easier said than done – and not just because Premier League giants like Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool are interested too.
Middlesbrough hold all the cards given that they tied Fry down to a new five-year deal as recently as April. And, in quotes reported by the Northern Echo, the England U21 stalwart doesn’t exactly sound like a player who is angling for a move.
“You always wish to play for Middlesbrough but when it happens you think ‘god, what’s happening here’, but I’m enjoying it at the minute,” said Fry, a boyhood Boro fanatic who would be in the terraces if he wasn’t shining on the pitch.
“I think the more I play the more belief I’ll get. The gaffer likes experience, I just need to get games under my belt. The more I keep performing and keeping clean sheets, stopping crosses and things like that, that’ll stand me in good stead.”

Clearly, Fry is enjoying his time in Middlesbrough’s starting XI so it seems very unlikely that he would be eyeing the exit in the New Year.
And this will be a disappointment for Celtic given that Fry, a talented and technically gifted centre-half who has shone at right-back recently, could solve two of the biggest problem positions facing Brendan Rodgers right now.
