Orlando City are indebted to Cyle Larin’s superb form in front of goal but will Celtic take a chance on the Canadian?

Cyle Larin may only be 22 but it appears that he has already outgrown the MLS.

Fortunately, he would not be short of options if he was to follow in the footsteps of Canadian compatriot Jozy Altidore and try his hand in Europe.

FourFourTwo claimed that Celtic are one of the clubs interested in the natural-born goal-scorer, and with good reason. Since moving to Orlando City in 2015, Larin’s prolific purple patch is showing no signs of slowing down.

He has averaged more than a goal every other game in the last two years, even breaking the record for the most goals scored by a ‘rookie’ in a single debut season with 17 in 2015. He has even outshone marquee teammate Kaka (below).

And Larin continues to go from strength to strength. With eight goals in just 14 games already this season, the fresh-faced youngster is comfortably on track to record his most prolific campaign in Major League Soccer while helping Orlando to fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

That is if Celtic do not whisk him away midway through the season. And though Brendan Rodgers is hardly short of options with Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths plundering 50 goals between them in all competitions last season, Larin is exactly the kind of player the Northern Irishman dreams about.

Young, affordable and under-the-radar, Rodgers’ transfer strategy at Parkhead appears to be based around players of Larin’s skill and status.

Therefore, it is not too much of a stretch to imagine the Canadian lighting up the Scottish Premiership in green and white sooner rather than later.
