Curtis Davies was crucial for Derby County in the Championship last season but Gary Rowett reportedly wants to take him to Stoke City.
Gary Rowett did not wait long to jump ship after Derby County’s Championship play-off defeat to Fulham.
Just a week later he was being unveiled as the new manager of Stoke City and it appears that he is keen to raid Pride Park for a couple of his trusted lieutenants. Derby’s top scorer Matej Vydra has been linked with a move to the Potters, while experienced defensive duo Scott Carson and Curtis Davies are also targets, according to the Mirror.
Fortunately, however, Davies has at least come out and eased any fears that he could be about to follow Rowett to Stoke. The arrival of Frank Lampard as Derby’s new manager appears to have captured the imagination of the 33-year-old centre-back, who went up against the former Chelsea midfielder during his spells at West Brom, Aston Villa and Hull City.
“The first thing I want to do is get my shirt signed. In all seriousness, I’ve played against him many times and he is just a good person,” Davies told Sky Sports.
“He is a winner on the pitch, so he’s not going to not tackle you, because he wants to win games, but he is always a gentleman.
“He’s honest and a nice person to talk to. As a young player to look up to he was definitely one that always did the right things on and off the pitch.”
Davies, who started every single Championship game for Derby last season, has not directly discussed his future, but this does not sound like a man angling for a move away.
It seems that Davies is overjoyed about the prospect of learning from Lampard. It remains to be seen whether Carson and Vydra feel the same way.
