Crystal Palace looked set to sign Vicente Guaita from Getafe but now appear to be looking at Serie A – a deal Newcastle United may watch with interest.
It appeared that Crystal Palace had identified Getafe’s Vicente Guaita as their new number one goalkeeper.
HITC understands that Palace are closing in on the signing of the Spanish shot-stopper, with the La Liga side keen to cash in now before his contract expires at the end of the season. It is understood that Guaita would cost a bargain £4 million.
But Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb may have just shook things up a little by reporting that the Eagles are also considering a move for Roma’s Lukasz Skorupski. It is understood that the Polish international is keen to leave the Stadio Olimpico this month and Roma will grant his wish, so long as a club agrees to pay his £9 million price-tag.
Skorupski has not made a single league appearance for Roma this season due to the brilliant form of Brazilian goalkeeper Allisson between the sticks. But the 26-year-old was one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A during a loan spell at Empoli over the last two years and deserves better than to sit on the bench.
It remains to be seen, however, who Palace will go for. A deal for Guaita appears to be edging closer, however the availability of Skorupski gives manager Roy Hodgson some serious food for thought.
Premier League rivals Newcastle United, however, may be hopeful that Palace turn their attention towards the Serie A giants. Because their hopes of landing Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid could depend on who Crystal Palace bring in this month.
AS stated earlier this week that Getafe had identified Casilla as the ideal replacement for Guaita after all, meaning Rafa Benitez is at risk of missing out on another top target.
