If Wilfried Zaha wants Champions League football, surely joining Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool or Pep Guardiola’s City would not be a bad idea.
Crystal Palace legend John Salako has admitted to Football London that the time is probably right for Wilfried Zaha to take his career to the next level, but believes Liverpool or Manchester City would not be a good fit for the Ivory Coast international.
The Mail reported last week that the homegrown star told Palace owner Steve Parish that he sees his future away from Selhurst Park after another exceptional season in which he guided the Eagles away from the relegation zone while scoring 10 Premier League goals for the first time.
Zaha, who is valued at a staggering £80 million, wants to prove himself at the top level of European football and joining Liverpool or City, who will be playing in the Champions League next season, would represent the perfect opportunity on paper.
Salako, however, does not believe Anfield or The Etihad would be the right environment.
“I don’t see him going to Manchester City or Liverpool, so there becomes less and less of an option,” Salako said.
“He has been absolutely phenomenal and I know he is talking about going to play Champions League and play at the top level, and I totally understand that. He is at that age now and he has offered so much.”
According to the Sun, Arsenal are desperate to sign Zaha this summer and are willing to offer Carl Jenkinson, Calum Chambers or Reiss Nelson to Crystal Palace in order to sweeten the deal – and reduce the winger’s eye-watering price-tag.
