Crystal Palace are above the Premier League relegation on goal difference only with a return to the Championship a genuine possibility.

Steve Parish’s admission that he is putting plans in place for Crystal Palace’s possible relegation form the Premier League, as reported by The Standard, has caused quite a stir from some members of the increasingly divided fan-base.

Though surely it would be totally remiss to just expect Palace, above the drop zone on goal difference only, to have the quality to survive this season. Parish is simply doing what any good businessman should do and prepare for the worst.

After all, countless clubs have sunk like a stone after slipping out of the Premier League in recent years and looking completely unprepared to start again. As it stands, Sunderland are bottom of the Championship and Hull City, who were also relegated last season, are not too far ahead.

Then again, it is difficult to disagree with some supporters that this whole relegation dog-fight could have been avoided.

Parish was criticised heavily for a perceived lack of investment during the summer transfer window despite spending £26 million on Mamadou Sakho, per The Telegraph, and the owner did not do himself any favours by making the unproven duo of Jaroslav Jach and Aleksander Sorloth, arriving from Poland and Denmark respectively, Palace’s only January signings.

Then there is the whole Frank de Boer affair, where the manager supposed to lead Palace into a new era was sacked after four games, four defeats and no goals.

If The Eagles do go down, Parish will have to take a large portion of the blame.
