Jordan Houston made his debut for Glasgow Rangers in their cup win against Cowdenbeath.
Rangers academy chief Craig Mulholland has admitted that he is shocked by the rapid rise of young full-back Jordan Houston in recent months, as reported by the Daily Record.
The teenager has been at Rangers for the last 12 years and realised a dream last week when he made his first-team debut in the Scottish Cup win against Cowdenbeath, coming off the bench in the final stages.
Houston, who has been in fabulous form for the U20s this season, also featured for 45 minutes of the friendly clash against HJK Helsinki earlier this year.
And, speaking to the Record, Mulholland has admitted that the 19-year-old has developed quicker than he ever expected while tipping him to follow in the footsteps of Ross McCrorie and Glenn Middleton to become a first-team regular at Ibrox.
“Jordan is probably ahead of where we thought his plan would be at this time,” the coach said.
“So, from his point of view, he needs more exposure with the first-team, which he is getting on a regular basis.
“If you look at Jordan, he’s getting quicker, stronger and technically better. He just needs to keep working hard to improve every day.”
Given that Steven Gerrard cut his coaching teeth with Liverpool’s U18s, it is perhaps no surprise that he has been so willing to give youngsters like Houston a chance in the first-team since taking over at Ibrox.
But can Houston establish himself as a regular between now and May?
