There are only two points separating Celtic and Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, but can Steven Gerrard take down Brendan Rodgers?
The chances of a title race in Scotland this season looked slim after Rangers went off the boil and Celtic found form in devastating fashion in recent weeks.
But Steven Gerrard’s side got back on track with a 7-1 thrashing of Motherwell on the same day that Celtic were held to a goalless draw by Livingston, meaning there are just two points between the two teams heading into the November international break.
Can Rangers, however, last the course and challenge Celtic well into the New Year? Craig Moore believes they are well placed to prevent their Old Firm rivals from securing an eighth straight Scottish Premiership title, but admits the next few weeks are crucial with Livingston, Hearts and Aberdeen on the horizon.
“The club is heading in the right direction,” Moore, who had two spells at Ibrox between 1994 and 2005, told the Daily Record.
“Rangers probably don’t have a real star, one individual talent that will stand out, but their success comes from unity and good, solid team performances.
“It’s going to be a big test for them because Celtic, despite a slow start to the season, appear to have found their stride. But what happens over the next six weeks will tell us a lot.”
Celtic had scored 20 goals and conceded just twice in four Scottish Premiership games before their eye-catching run came to an end against an organised Livingston.
And Rangers will have to prove they are capable of putting together a similarly impressive run, although the 7-1 victory against Motherwell certainly showed they are capable of turning it on when required.
