A-League hopefuls Western Melbourne are reportedly hopeful of signing Celtic’s Scottish Premiership champion Scott Brown.
Celtic’s influential captain Scott Brown has made no secret about his desire to extend a contract that is currently due to expire at the end of this season.
But should the talks reach an impasse for whatever reason, A-League hopefuls Western Melbourne are willing to offer Brown a fresh start down under after ten years hoovering up the trophies in Glasgow.
According to The Mail, Western Melbourne are hoping to join the Australian top flight in 2019 and want to make the 33-year-old former Scotland skipper their marquee signing.
And, speaking to the World Game, former Australia defender Craig Moore has backed Western Melbourne’s pursuit of the evergreen Brown.
“I don’t know what his personal and family situation is and whether he’d be open to a move here. But if Western Melbourne got in and were able to sign him, they’d have an enforcer on their hands who would be a plus for the A-League,” said Moore, who played for Celtic’s rivals Rangers over two spells.
“He might not have a massive range but he’s influential because he dictates the pace of matches. He has all the tools to dominate in matches, and there’s no doubt he’d be able to do that in Australia.”
The Australian A-League has lured a whole host of big name players Down Under in recent seasons with the likes of Ross McCormack, Ola Toivonen and Keisuke Honda all set to start the campaign with new clubs, not to mention Usain Bolt.
But Brown is still a key player for Celtic so the Scottish Champions have no reason not to tie him down.
