Luke Thomas has impressed with Coventry City since he arrived on loan from Derby County in the summer transfer window.
Luke Thomas was not deemed ready to fight for a place in Derby County’s first-team this season.
But the talented young midfielder has taken his chance to impress in style since moving to Coventry City on loan in the summer. The Sky Blues are enjoying a positive season so far, sitting 12th in League One, and Thomas has got the fans off their seat on a regular basis with his mazy runs and eye-catching skill.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, manager Mark Robins has confirmed that he would love to keep the 19-year-old at the Ricoh Arena until the end of the season, with his current loan deal due to expire in January.
“We are talking to Derby and Chris Badlan (head of recruitment) will try to set that one up,” said the former Barnsley boss.
“There’s no rush and it depends on what (Derby) want to do. But I am quite happy to have him around because he’s done well and he’s a great kid. So we’ll see, we’ll see what happens.”
The report adds that Derby manager Frank Lampard has already confirmed that Thomas is a big part of his plans at Pride Park. Encouragingly, the former Chelsea midfielder has given a chance to a number of young players this season, including Jayden Bogle and Premier League loanees Mason Mount and Harry Wilson.
With Mount and Wilson (below) due to remain at Derby for the rest of the campaign, it makes sense for Thomas to continue his progress at Coventry.
