Swansea City beat Championship opposition Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup but who is the favourite to sign AC Milan striker Andre Silva?
Swansea City are no longer the prime example of a ‘well-run club’. The South Wales side are now onto their fifth permanent manager since the start of last season, sit bottom of the Premier League and sold star duo Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente without even a hint of a replacement.
No wonder the club’s American owners, Steve Kaplan and Jason Levein, have come under ever-increasing fire from disillusioned supporters. Their takeover in July 2016, after all, has coincided with the dramatic decline of Swansea in the Premier League.
So even though Swansea did edge out Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in the FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday, it appears a little unlikely that The Swans could win a fight against Wolves in the boardroom.
This comes shortly after the Mirror stated that Championship leaders Wolves made a stunning bid for the Portuguese number nine, and were willing to match the £34 million Milan paid Porto for the 22-year-old back in the summer.
And while Swansea have been a little reluctant to spend big under their American owners, the same cannot be said about Wolves since they were taken over by Chinese consortium Fosun International.
Wolves boast the most expensive player in Championship history after all with Ruben Neves just one of a number of Portuguese talents in the squad. And then there’s the fact that Silva’s former manager at Porto, Nuno Espirito Santo, is now in the dugout at Molineux.
Did we mention that Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, plays a big part in Wolves’ transfer policy?
Swansea might have put Wolves in their place on Wednesday but there is surely only one winner if Silva leaves Italy.
