Tottenham Hotspur became the first Premier League team since 2003 to fail to bring in a single new player in the summer transfer window. So many fans will be hoping for a marquee signing or two in January as Mauricio Pochettino aims to keep his side within touching distance of their big-spending rivals.

Interestingly, it seems that a Spurs side who have provided a platform for Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez, Dele Alli and co are once again looking at youth.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham want the exciting PSV Eindoven winger Steven Bergwijn while the same publication claims that prolific Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek is also on their radar.

Neither player is a household name just yet, but there is little doubt that they are two of the most exciting young players anywhere in Europe.

Dutch international Bergwijn is a hugely gifted forward blessed with rapid pace and an end product that appears to be getting better by the week. The 20-year-old won the Eredivisie title with PSV last season and has already scored five times in 2018/19.

That is a rather average record compared to Piatek, however, who has netted a remarkable 12 goals in seven games since arriving at Genoa from Cracovia for just £4 million. The Pole is a natural-born finisher who could perhaps be the Harry Kane back-up Spurs have been crying out for.

Tottenham were accused of a lack of ambition during a quiet summer. But signing two future world stars in Bergwijn and Piatek would provide a much-needed statement.
