Should Swansea’s £6m target Seydou Doumbia be in Everton’s sights again?

Everton are looking for another striker and should consider battling Premier League rivals Swansea City for Sporting Lisbon’s Seydou Doumbia.

Back in September, the Sun reported that Everton had made enquiries about the availability of Sporting Lisbon striker Seydou Doumbia.

And with the Toffees seemingly on the lookout for further attacking reinforcements to add to the in-form Cenk Tosun, could the Ivorian become an option for the Goodison Park club again?

Record claims that Sporting are now ready to listen to offers for a player who has been trusted to start just four Primeira Liga games this season, partly thanks to the outstanding form of Bas Dost.

And it is understood that a Swansea City side who are set to lose loanee Tammy Abraham in the summer have identified Doumbia as a potential new addition. The 30-year-old will be available for as little as £6 million and, despite flopping during a loan spell at Newcastle United two years ago, he has the pace and instinctive finishing to add some much needed potency to the Swans’ attack.

But Everton should be keeping a close eye on the situation. Because the Toffees have paid over the odds far too often for new signings in Farhad Moshiri’s reign and, if Doumbia can find form, he would represent a rare bargain.

Doumbia, however, would be a risk. The striker has a strange habit of either being unstoppable or awful, failing at Roma, Newcastle and Sporting while scoring goals for fun at Basel and CSKA Moscow.

And for those claiming that the Russian and Swiss leagues are vastly inferior to the English game, consider this; Doumbia scored 23 goals in 28 games for CSKA in European competition.
