Newcastle United have been linked with a shock move to sign Spanish starlet Marcos Llorente from La Liga champions Real Madrid.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez reacts during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur at St. James Park on August 13, 2017 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Newcastle United fans don’t need reminding that the transfer window hasn’t gone to plan.

The Magpies went into January needing a new left-back, a creative central midfielder, a dominant centre-back and a prolific goalscorer. But the only new face at St James’ Park is that of Kenedy, a loan signing from Chelsea.

And, per the Mail, a deal for Nicolai Jorgensen is unlikely to happen while Daniel Sturridge, who Newcastle were desperate to sign, has joined West Brom despite holding talks with Rafa Benitez.

Though Benitez may have one trick up their sleeve to give the St James’ faithful something to cheer about at last right at the end of the month.

AS claim that the Tynesiders are lining up a shock deal to sign Spanish Under-21 starlet Marcos Llorente on loan from none other than La Liga and European champions Real Madrid.

Now, the 23-year-old hasn’t really made an impact since returning to the Bernabau from a loan spell at Alaves, starting only two La Liga games.

But don’t let this fool you, Llorente is one of the most gifted young defensive midfielders in the game and anyone who watched him star at the European Under-21 Championships in the summer will tell you that Real have their very own Sergio Busquetts on their hands.

And a loan spell at Newcastle could perhaps be just what Llorente needs to show he deserves a chance in Real’s first-team in the near future.

Benitez knows the youngster well, having handed him his Madrid debut back in October 2015, so who better to give Llorente a platform upon which to perform?

Central midfield is one of the strongest areas of a weak Magpies squad – but Llorente is a superb talent who could offer some much-needed protection to a defence which has looked increasingly vulnerable as the weeks go by.
