Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of European sides RB Leipzig star Timo Werner would be keen to join and Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan.

There are a few similarities between Tottenham Hotspur and RB Leipzig. Both clubs are building something exciting with young, talented and hungry players at the fore, specialise in turning raw potential into world-class ability and continue to punch above their weight both at home and on the continent.

So a link-up between the two sides could prove a good fit. According to the Mirror, Spurs’ one-time recruitment chief Paul Mitchell has recently undertaken a similar role at Leipzig and could look to bring a couple of the London giant’s most exciting youngsters to the Bundesliga, with 17-year-old winger Reo Griffiths (below) the first in line.

But could this budding partnership benefit Tottenham, too?

The prolific German international Timo Werner has already admitted that he would be interested in a move to Spurs in the future, as reported by Bild, with his heart set on moving to what he calls a ‘big club’.

And Tuttosport (14 February, page 20) report that Werner has rejected a new contract at Leipzig, who could be willing to listen to offers of around £50 million.

Spurs would have to smash their transfer record then, but it would surely be worth it for a player Mauricio Pochettino has wanted since 2014. Werner was a spindly winger at Stuttgart then but is now a goal-scoring colossus at Leipzig, an Antoine Griezmann-esque conversion turning him into one of Europe’s best strikers and Germany’s most likely centre-forward at the World Cup.

So Spurs getting into bed with Leipzig could prove beneficial for both parties, with some of Europe’s biggest sides checking Werner out.
