Could PSV’s Jurgen Locadia become Wolves’ next hugely impressive signing?

PSV coach Phillip Cocu has suggested that Jurgen Locadia could leave the Eredivisie and summer suitors Wolves should be waiting in the wings.

The harsh reality facing all clubs in the Eredivisie is that it does not take long for rising stars to outgrow a relatively small and financially-weak pond. And with Jurgen Locadia finally starting to fulfil his potential at PSV Eindhoven, it seems only a matter of time before he follows Memphis Depay, Georginio Wijnaldum and co out the door.

Even PSV manager Phillip Cocu has admitted that Locadia’s days may be numbered, with the side currently eight points clear at the top of Holland’s top flight.

“Jurgen must make the final step in his personal development this season in order to have enough to start a new adventure in a different league,” Cocu said in quotes reported by ED when asked whether Locadia could leave at the end of the season.

“But I prefer, of course, that he will stay another five years.”

If Locadia does indeed depart the Phillips Stadium at the end of this season, Wolverhampton Wanderers surely will not be absent from the gossip columns.

Form of his life

According to Sky Sports, Locadia was midway through a medical for a proposed £9.8 million move when PSV decided at the eleventh hour that they did not want to sell on transfer deadline day.

And, since then, Locadia’s form has exploded in the Eredivisie. The 24-year-old has a league high nine goals in 12 games, including four in a 7-1 thrashing of Utrecht back in September. As such, he is only five goals away from matching his career-best tally already and it’s fair to say he’s in the form of his life right now.

Locadia, then, would be another hugely impressive signing for a Wolves side who are sitting top of the Championship table right now with some of the league’s most talented players in their squad.

Thanks to the backing of Chinese owners Fosun and the connections of super-agent Jorge Mendes, Wolves continue to punch above their weight in the transfer market and signing Locadia would be up there with the Ruben Neves’ and the Diogo Jotas.
