Tony Watt is a free agent right now and the former Celtic striker has been training with Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen.

One of the first nights of Tony Watt’s career could also be the best.

At the age of just 18, the Celtic prodigy rose to stardom with a dream goal. The Hoops were a goal up against Barcelona in the Champions League group stages when he came off the bench for his European debut late in the second half.

Minutes later, Watt announced himself to the world with a brilliantly taken goal that had Parkhead in raptures, Rod Stewart in tears and pundits all across the UK proclaiming the teenage striker as a future star.

That was five-and-a-half years ago now, however. And it is fair to say Watt is unlikely to be facing off against Lionel Messi and co again any time soon.

The striker was released by Belgian side OH Leuven last week and is now on the lookout for the tenth club of his career, although he cannot sign for a new team until the summer.

But the former Cardiff, Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Athletic front man could be back in the Scottish game before long.

Because the Evening Express reports that Watt has been training with Celtic’s Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen in a bid to boost his fitness. It is understood that this is because he and Dons boss Derek McInnes share the same agent and, as things stand, last season’s runners-up are not planning to sign Watt.

But if he impresses behind the scenes and proves his fitness, who is to say Aberdeen will not be tempted to offer him the chance to get his career back on track? At just 24, it is far too early to write off the scorer of one of Celtic’s most famous goals and the Dons would be signing a player with vast amounts of untapped potential for absolutely nothing if he can change their mind.
