Gary Mackay-Steven has been in fine form in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen and will feature against former club Celtic at Hampden Park.
Brendan Rodgers has lifted the Scottish League Cup in each of his two previous seasons at Celtic and the manager will be hoping to make it three in a row on 2 December.
The Hoops take on old adversaries Aberdeen at Hampden Park on Sunday and go into the game as big favourites; particularly as Derek McInnes’s Dons have hardly set the world alight so far this season.
But there is one player who will be absolutely desperate to rain on yet another Celtic parade – Gary Mackay-Steven.
It was quite clear that Rodgers simply did not fancy ‘GMS’ at Celtic, and the tricky winger was sold for just £250,000 after a mere eight league appearances under the former Liverpool and Swansea City boss, as reported by the Daily Record.
The one-time Dundee United starlet has found his best form again in an Aberdeen shirt, however, and has forced his way back into the Scotland squad after scoring an impressive six goals in 18 games so far this season.
Mackay-Steven is expected to line up on the left wing against his former club at the weekend, which would put him up against Mikael Lustig, the Swedish right-back who many observers have labelled Rodgers’ weak link.
Mackay-Steven arguably represents Aberdeen’s best chance of causing a shock at Hampden. Celtic will be desperate to avoid being left red-faced by a man they discarded with barely a second thought.
