Wolverhampton Wanderers were reportedly interested in signing James Maddison but he joined Premier League rivals and EFL Cup opponents Leicester City.

Some of the biggest clubs in England were linked with James Maddison heading into the summer transfer window and now it’s pretty clear why the young midfielder was attracting so much attention.
Leicester City pulled off a coup in winning the race for Maddison and the £20 million they paid Norwich for his signature is already looking like a bargain.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation under Claude Puel, seizing the creative mantle in midfield and scoring his third goal in just six Premier League games with a Beckham-esque free-kick in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Huddersfield Town.
And should he continue his outstanding form away at Wolves in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup clash, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could be left kicking themselves.
Because, according to the Express and Star, Wolves were monitoring Maddison in January with a view to signing him in the summer. They certainly felt that the England U21 ace had the quality and potential to thrive in the Premier League once Wolves’ promotion was confirmed.

Now, recruitment has been a major strong point for the Black Country giants since the Fosun International takeover in 2016 but failing to rival Leicester for Maddison could prove to be a big, albeit rare, mistake.
Because Maddison’s £20 million price-tag will have doubled, perhaps even trebled, after just six games for Leicester. And he will be hoping to prove once again at Molineux that he can change a game in the blinking of an eye.
