Championship hopefuls Leeds United sent goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald back to the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer transfer window.

Felix Wiedwald would have been hoping that a return to Eintracht Frankfurt would have helped him get his career back on track.
The goalkeeper certainly needed a fresh start after a nightmare season at Leeds United. The Yorkshire giants paid Werder Bremen £500,000 to bring Wiedwald to Elland Road in 2017 but 28 largely error-filled Championship starts later, the ‘shot-stopper’ was flogged to Frankfurt.
The 28-year-old lost his place as Leeds’ number one in the spring with untried rookie Bailey Peacock-Farrell taking his place between the sticks. And Wiedwald is once again finding game time hard to come by at Frankfurt.
He has not made a single appearance since returning for a second spell at the current DFB Pokal champions and has been left out of the matchday squad for seven of Frankfurt’s eight Bundesliga fixtures.

With Kevin Trapp impressing since moving back to Frankfurt this summer after a spell at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain – and with Danish international Frederik Ronnow on the bench, don’t be surprised if Wiedwald goes through the whole season without making a Bundesliga appearance, barring some unexpected and highly unfortunate injury crisis.
