Scottish Premiership giants Celtic want Werder Bremen’s Lennart Thy – and their Head of Recruitment knows the Bundesliga well.

It seems there is something in the reports linking Celtic with a shock move for Werder Bremen owned striker Lennart Thy.

As reported by The Sun, Brendan Rodgers has sent scouts to watch the 26-year-old in action for Eredivisie outfit VVV-Venlo, for whom he has found the net seven times in the Dutch Eredivisie during a loan spell this season.

Rodgers confirmed that he had been discussing summer targets with Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton and it will be interesting to see whether Congerton’s Bundesliga connections could potentially give Celtic a trump card in the pursuit of the former Germany U21 ace, who has so far insisted that he is only thinking of a future at Bremen.

Congerton spent time as Technical Director at Hamburg before returning to Britain with Sunderland in 2014 so will have developed a rather useful list of contacts across German football.

So while the former Black Cats’ Sporting Director has not had a perfect first year at Celtic with the likes of Jonny Hayes and Olivier Ntcham, brought to Parkhead on his watch, disappointing somewhat in green and white.

Therefore, there may be quite a bit of focus on Thy if he moves to Celtic this summer, particularly as his goalscoring record across 29 games in the Eredivisie, which is hardly known for its high-class defending, is far from prolific.
