Eric Lichaj is so close to joining Hull City from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest – but could he be forced to stay at the City Ground instead?

This time last week, it was expected that Eric Lichaj would be on his way to Hull City and Nottingham Forest would replace him with Aston Villa’s Alan Hutton.

Now, however, one deal is off and another potentially in doubt. The Nottingham Post claimed that Forest were confident of landing Hutton after holding positive talks, only for him to take a massive pay cut in order to sign a new contract at Aston Villa instead.

And now Lichaj’s future is up in the air too.

The Nottingham Post claims that the 29-year-old American has agreed personal terms ahead of a potential move to Humberside – but the transfer fee is now holding up the move.

It is understood that Forest want £400,000 for their long-serving right-back, which is hardly an unreasonable fee in today’s market.

But the report adds that Hull have made a bid which falls below the former European champions’ valuation of Lichaj, who was named Forest’s Player of the Year in 2017 and has made over 200 appearances for the club.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail in May, Tigers boss Nigel Adkins warned fans not to expect any big-money signings with money tight at the KCom Stadium. So it remains to be seen whether Hull can afford to raise their offer for Lichaj.
