Brentford’s Neal Maupay is the Championship’s top scorer and Crystal Palace should rival Premier League strugglers Huddersfield Town for his signature.
Unless Huddersfield Town sign a goal-scorer in January, relegation would seem little other than inevitable.
The Terriers have scored just seven goals in their last 18 games and, as a result, they have failed to win in any of their first eight Premier League matches. So no wonder David Wagner wants to bring the arch-poacher Neal Maupay to the John Smith’s Stadium.
According to the Sun (7 October, page 60), Huddersfield are prepared to pay £10 million to sign the Brentford striker in January, with Maupay understood to be intrigued by a move to the Premier League.
But the Yorkshire strugglers are not the only Premier League team who need a striker desperately. Crystal Palace have scored just one more goal (5) than Huddersfield this season and have failed to notch in any of their home matches so far.
Christian Benteke’s struggles are well established, while Aleksander Sorloth has not scored a Premier League goal since he arrived in January for an overpriced £9 million.
22-year-old Maupay, however, is a natural-born goal poacher who has scored ten goals in ten Championship starts so far. No one in the second tier has hit the back of the net more times this season.
With creativity provided by the likes of Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha, Maupay could be the penalty-box poacher Roy Hodgson’s Palace are screaming out for.
