According to The Times, the Everton striker underwent a medical at Selhurst Park on transfer deadline day only for his £7 million transfer to fall apart at the 11th hour due to the demands of his representatives.
A year and a half on, however, the deal should perhaps be revisited.
After all, Niasse is completely out of favour at Goodison Park right now. The Senegal international has played just 48 minutes of Premier League football since Marco Silva took over at Everton and Turkish Football reports that he will be allowed to leave in January.
And this should not go unnoticed by Crystal Palace.
Like in August 2017, a new centre-forward is still needed with Christian Benteke bang out of form, Connor Wickham still injured and Aleksandar Sorloth yet to score a Premier League goal since his £9 million January arrival.
And while Niasse, who moved to Everton from Lokomotiv Moscow for £13 million, is not a natural goalscorer, he still boasted eight strikes in 10 Premier League games last season.
Signing a player like him could be the difference between staying up and going down.
