Scottish Premiership giants Celtic were tipped to sign a new number one this summer with Dundee’s Scott Bain and Motherwell’s Trevor Carson in demand.

When a team cruises to a 4-0 win, the goalkeeper is not usually one of the best players on the pitch.
But Craig Gordon deserved his little slice of praise after Celtic battered Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon.

Making only his second start since suffering a serious injury back in January, the 35-year-old looked like he had never been away as he came to life in the blink of an eye to keep Rangers off the score sheet.
Gordon made three brilliant instinctive saves in a matter of moments, including a reaction stop from Alfredo Morelos which would have had the Colombian tossing and turning, wondering how his horror run against Celtic was not put to bed.

It was the kind of performance that reminded everyone just what a special shot-stopper Gordon can be at his very best – and proved that there is life in the old dog yet just eight months away from his 36th birthday.
It seems that signing a new goalkeeper is one of Celtic’s main priorities this summer with the Scottish Sun claiming that a permanent deal for Dundee’s Scott Bain is on the cards. The Sun (15th April, page 61), meanwhile, believes that Celtic are still keen on Motherwell talisman and January target Trevor Carson.
But as long as Gordon maintains that ability to produce something spectacular, finding his long-term replacement does not seem like such a pressing issue.
