West Ham United are reportedly keen to bring Kostas Mitroglou back to the Premier League from Ligue 1 giants Marseille – and Olivier Giroud could be key.

Chelsea and West Ham United are not exactly the best of friends – but one could inadvertently help the other heading into the January transfer window.
It has been claimed that West Ham are keen to add a striker to their ranks in the New Year with the infamous Fulham flop Kostas Mitroglou having been linked of late. The 30-year-old is now at Marseille and The Mail believes that The Hammers want to bring him to the London Stadium on loan.
But could Chelsea hold the key to their capital city neighbours getting this deal over the line?
West Ham’s hopes of landing Mitroglou will certainly be boosted if Chelsea allow Olivier Giroud to return to France after all.
According to L’Equipe, Marseille are keen to sign the French World Cup winner in a deal that could involve an initial loan and a permanent transfer at the end of the season, by which time Giroud will be a free agent.

With the former Arsenal man struggling for regular chances behind Alvaro Morata at Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri could be open to letting him go.
And Giroud would certainly boost West Ham’s hopes of signing Mitroglou, a similarly physical target man who has scored three Ligue 1 goals this season. He could be a direct replacement.
