Scottish Premiership giants Celtic allowed Erik Sviatchenko to return to the Danish Superliga with FC Midtjylland in January.
Celtic might have been beaten 2-1 by Hibernian on Saturday to ensure they will have to wait a while longer to secure their league title but a seventh straight Scottish Premiership title is still definitely heading to Parkhead.
But while the Hoops prepare to celebrate, a man they let go in the January transfer window could have missed out on a league title of his own in heartbreaking fashion.
Erik Sviatchenko fell down the pecking order at Celtic this season, failing to make a single league appearance in the first half of 2017/18 before returning to Denmark with FC Midtjylland in the January transfer window.
But Sviatchenko’s hopes of a league title in his homeland are hanging by a thread. Midtjylland finished level on 70 points with Brondby before the league was split into three groups, similar to the system used in the Scottish Premiership.
Yet since the league resumed, Midtjylland look to have thrown away their title. They were two goals up against Brondby at home before going on to lose 3-2 and then conceded three times again as they failed to beat Aalborg.
Brondby, however, have stormed ahead and now lead the table by five points with just four games to go.
And Sviatchenko, who played 90 minutes in both of those games as his side let in six goals, will be feeling left out if his Celtic teammates celebrate a title without him.
