Andi Weimann is shining up front for Bristol City, so why did Rowett play him out wide for Championship underachievers Derby County?

Andi Weimann has now scored as many goals in five games for Bristol City as he managed in 40 for Derby County last season.
The Austrian is emerging already as one of the most impressive signings of the Championship season. He has scored five times already for the Robins since his £2.5 million move, ensuring the spectre of Bobby Reid has already been exorcized from Ashton Gate.
Weimann netted the winner in the 1-0 triumph over Swansea City on Saturday, and Derby fans have been left wondering what might have been.
After all, the former Aston Villa youngster is showing what he can do with a regular run of games at centre-forward. And his current form is even more surprising when you consider that Gary Rowett often played him at wing-back last season.

Weimann was a regular under Rowett but never trusted to play in his favoured position, being forced out wide instead as he became a victim of his own commendable work rate.
Rowett did lead Derby to the play-off semi finals last season but many of his tactical decisions rubbed up supporters the wrong way, particularly his seemingly reactive, defensively minded style.
Derby had one of the Championship’s best and most experienced squads under Rowett and underachieved. And the sudden rise of Weimann rather epitomises this.
