Andre Gomes arguably outshone Fabinho despite Liverpool beating Everton 1-0 in Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Liverpool might have emerged victorious in dramatic fashion in Sunday’s Merseyside derby but the best player on the pitch was wearing a blue shirt.
In the battle of the new midfielders, Andre Gomes arguably outshone Fabinho on his derby debut, looking like class personified in the centre of the park with his composure and effortless balance standing out in a high-octane encounter.
And while Fabinho added steel in front of the Liverpool defence and made a couple of tidy challenges to win back possession, the jury remains out on whether the former Monaco midfielder is worthy of his £43.7 million price-tag, as reported by The Telegraph.
In contrast to the fee Barcelona seem willing to accept for Gomes, this seems a little steep.

According to The Times, Everton are confident that the Portugal international wants to stay at Goodison Park after two nightmare years in Catalonia. It is understood that Barcelona want to recoup the £29 million they paid Valencia for Gomes in 2016.
Now, director of football Marcel Brands has already pulled off a few outstanding pieces of business since arriving in English football and £29 million for the outstanding Gomes could be the best of the lot.
Especially when you consider that Fabinho cost nearly £15 million more.
