Kyle Walker-Peters had a decent game for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Spurs drew 2-2 away to Premier League champions Manchester City, and right-back Walker-Peters, up against Raheem Sterling, might not have a more formidable opponent to mark all season.

Speaking to Football London afterwards, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said: “I think he still needs to improve. He’s still so young. It’s not easy when you’re a back-up player.

“You have an amazing opportunity when you play and you feel the excitement, but when you feel the responsibility 200% when you’re first choice and we’ll see how he deals with that.”

The interesting thing here is that Pochettino referred to Walker-Peters as his first-choice for that role in what could be a sign that Serge Aurier is leaving.

Calciomercato reported this week that the North Londoners have offered the Ivory Coast right-back to AC Milan.

Pochettino referred to the 22-year-old as his man at right-back without a moment’s hesitation or consideration for Aurier, something he may not have done if he believed that he was staying at the club.

Aurier is by far the more experienced of the two. It isn’t a no-brainer that he’d behind Walker-Peters, but Pochettino’s confidence indicate that it is and maybe, just maybe, it’s because the former PSG man is leaving.
