Danny Cowley is reportedly in talks to leave League One Lincoln City to take over from Lee Bullen at Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday?

Clinton Morrison has backed Sheffield Wednesday’s pursuit of Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley, telling Jim White on talkSPORT (4 September, 10.30am) that the promotion specialist has done an ‘exceptional’ job at Sincil Bank.
In three years in charge of the Imps, Cowley has taken the club from the fifth tier to second in League One via successive promotions with a run to the FA Cup quarter-finals in between.
The 40-year-old has publicly refuted suggestions that he could take over at Huddersfield Town but Sky claims that he, along with brother and assistant Nicky, is now in advanced talks with Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls have won half of their six Championship games this season with Lee Bullen in caretaker charge but Morrison, who spent two years at Hillsborough between 2010 and 2012, believes Cowley is the man capable of bringing the Steel City side back to the big time.
“Fair play, what they have done to Lincoln is exceptional. When a club like Sheffield Wednesday come in, you’ve got to decide to go. It’s a massive club,” said the former Republic of Ireland international.

“The fans are magnificent and the club is ready to get back in the Premier League. It’s got great owners. Hopefully those two (the Cowley brothers) go in and do a great job.
“I’m a bit disappointed maybe (Lee Bullen) hasn’t got the job but the Cowley brothers have done a terrific job at Lincoln. Hopefully they can go and do that at Sheffield Wednesday.”
Hiring Cowley would still represent a risk given that he has never coached at a higher than the third tier level. But one of the brightest young coaches anywhere in British football has served his apprenticeship in the lower leagues and deserves a chance to prove that he belongs at a higher level.
