Ben Gibson made just one Premier League appearance last season but could he lead Nottingham Forest to the Championship title?

Nottingham Forest could be one or two signings away from being a real force in the Championship next season.

In Joe Lolley, Lewis Grabban, Joao Carvalho and Alexander Milosevic, they have a number of players who would walk into the vast majority of second division sides while new additions Aro Muric, Alfa Semedo and Tiago Silva could offer real quality throughout the spine of a new-look team.

But, after a busy few weeks on the recruitment front, what is the next task on Sabri Lamouchi’s tick list? Well, it seems signing a centre-back is high on his list of priorities.

The Daily Record claims that Nottingham Forest have made a bid for Aberdeen’s Scotland international Scott McKenna but it’s their second choice option who the fans would love to see arrive at the City Ground.

The report adds that Forest could turn to Ben Gibson, a commanding centre-half who Burnley paid £15 million for just last summer.

Yes, Gibson endured a miserable, injury-hit season at Turf Moor but it has not been forgotten that he captained Middlesbrough to promotion just three years ago before earning a well-deserved call-up to the England national team. The 26-year-old could be a missing piece in a Forest jigsaw which is just about starting to take shape.
