Odsonne Edouard left fans, critics and neutrals alike drooling when he channelled his inner-CR7 to seal Celtic’s 2-0 win against AIK Stockholm on Thursday night.

And Christopher Jullien was left equally gobsmacked by a glorious free-kick which put The Hoops one step closer to qualifying for the group stages of the Europa League, speaking to the club’s official website.

A June signing from Toulouse, Jullien has only been a Celtic player for a couple of weeks. But it hasn’t taken the giant centre-back long to realise what Hoops fans have known for some time; Edouard is the real deal.

If AIK goalkeeper Oscar Linner was wondering why Edouard was nicknamed ‘The Rocket’ during his goal-laden days in the PSG academy, he certainly knows now. With 20 minutes to go, Celtic’s £9 million record signing lived up to his moniker and his price-tag with a sensational knuckleball free-kick straight out of the Cristiano Ronaldo playbook.

“Odsonne is a really good player,” said an awe-struck Jullien, who played with Edouard during his 2016/17 loan spell at Toulouse. “He’s unbelievable.

“When I look back to his first year at Toulouse and see him now, it’s remarkable. He’s worked his way to the top and is a really good footballer.

“I don’t think he has limits. He has a lot of quality, he can head, pass, score and dribble. He can do everything and that’s good for Celtic and for him. Since I’ve known him he’s been on his way to the top.”

The one concern, however, is that displays like this on the European stage are guaranteed to raise interest in a striker who is still just 21 years of age.

Celtic have a history of losing their very best talents before they reach their peak and holding onto Edouard is another battle they will have to face one day soon.
