Would Marcus Rashford be better off at Tottenham Hotspur than Manchester United?

Marcus Rashford has been forced to endure plenty of criticism of late, so his scintillating display in Andalusia on Monday was perfectly timed.

The Manchester United player was back to his best as England sealed a famous 3-2 UEFA Nations League win away at Spain, setting up the first of Raheem Sterling’s two goals with a defence-splitting pass before scoring himself with a clinical volleyed finish.

There is little doubt that Rashford is one of the biggest talents in European football, but whether Old Trafford is the right place for him to develop remains to be seen.

Jose Mourinho does not exactly have a stellar record when it comes to blooding young talent, after all, and Rashford has made just two Premier League starts this season.

As a result, some have suggested that the Carrington academy graduate would be better off at Tottenham, working under a manager in Mauricio Pochettino who has helped turn Harry Kane, Danny Rose, Dele Alli and co into England regulars.

Speaking to Sportingbet, Tottenham great Chris Waddle has discussed how Rashford would potentially fit in at Spurs.

“Rashford will have to leave if he doesn’t get regular first team football. It’s vital at this age that Rashford is playing regularly and in the position that best suits him,” Waddle said.

“He needs to get games and if he’s not getting games at United then he needs to go elsewhere in order to get it. There’ll be a time when he decides to look at other teams where he can play week in week out, he’s never been in that position and he needs that at some point.”

“Rashford could play wide left for Tottenham, but he wouldn’t get ahead of Kane.”

The chance of Manchester United selling one of their most exciting academy graduates of the 21st century to a top six rival looks very slim.
