Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are expected to announce the signing of Andew Gutman this week.
It seems it is not just Rangers who have been left frustrated by Andrew Gutman’s impending move to Celtic.
As reported by the American Soccer Now, the 22-year-old left-back spent time on trial at Ibrox over the festive period and was even offered a contract by the Glasgow giants. But, in a shock twist, Gutman is now set to join Rangers’ Old Firm rivals’ Celtic and could be unveiled this week, the Daily Record claims.
Like Steven Gerrard’s side, Chicago Fire also offered a contract to the highly-rated American, who was eligible to sign for the MLS outfit as a homegrown player on the back of his impressive performances for Indiana University.
But, speaking to the Daily Record, Chicago Fire’s director Nelson Rodriguez has admitted that Gutman turned them down.
“Andrew was offered a contract but chose not to accept it,” Rodriguez said.
“Instead he decided to go with the offer from Celtic so good luck to him.”
It will be interesting to see what sort of role Gutman will have at Celtic, who have no shortage of left-backs. Kieran Tierney should remain Brendan Rodgers’ first-choice with Gutman seemingly set to challenge Emiliano Izaguirre and Jonny Hayes for a place in reserve.
The defender will be the second fresh-faced USA starlet to join Celtic this month, following in the footsteps of PSG loanee Timothy Weah.
