Mo Salah scored arguably his best Liverpool goal as Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League leaders stunned Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has described Mo Salah’s long-range wonder-goal as ‘shocking’ as his side were beaten 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday, speaking to Sky Sports (14 April, 6:00pm).
Liverpool were under no illusions that they needed to win when they hosted their old nemesis on Merseyside shortly after Premier League title rivals Manchester City battled to a hard-fought 3-1 away win at Crystal Palace.
But the Reds turned on the style to seal a well-deserved triumph, Salah exercising the ghosts of Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip in the same fixture five years ago with a rocket of a shot which exploded into the top corner from 25 yards out.
And, after the game, Sarri has admitted that the Egyptian’s 22nd goal of the season came out of nowhere and sealed the game in Liverpool’s favour.
“We played a good match against wonderful opponents. We stayed in the match for 50 minutes. After the second goal – a shocking goal in a good way for them but not for us – we reacted,” the former Napoli boss said.
“We had two or three opportunities to score but I think we played very well.”
Sadio Mane scored the opener with a well-placed header a few minutes before Salah’s moment of magic but there was no doubt about who deserved to hog the headlines afterwards, the one-time Chelsea winger showing his former employers what they are missing in quite remarkable fashion.
