Ruben Neves has only just signed a new contract with Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers but he’s still being tipped to join Chelsea by the bookies.
Ruben Neves could not have done any more to make it clear to potential suitors where his loyalties lie.
The 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder signed a new contract with Wolves until 2023 at the start of July, considerably increasing his previous £25,000-a-week salary.
“I’m delighted to sign the new deal with the club. It’s important for me, I feel that the club trust me and I’ll do everything to help the club again,” Neves told the Express and Star.
So the chances of the former Porto skipper leaving Molineux this summer looks slim at best. Then again, that has not stopped Chelsea from being given very short odds to land Neves before the transfer window slams shut. Bet Victor have given the Blues a price of 5/1 to snap up the Portugal international.
And, on paper, Neves would be a sensational signing for Chelsea. He would arguably be an upgrade on the clumsy Tiemoue Bakayoko and the seldom-seen Danny Drinkwater and potentially a long-term successor for 31-year-old Cesc Fabregas in the deep-lying playmaker role.
But Wolves have no need to sell, particularly with their billionaire Chinese owners given the club a degree of financial power they have never had before.
Expect to see Neves wearing gold when the Premier League season kicks off.
